On/off feeling of pad down/pad up, something like this.Schumann published them alternatively for clarinet or cello, and there are many very fine cello performances -- maybe more than there are on clarinet. They are written for A clarinet, but the first piece in particular is often transposed on Bb, to avoid a single nasty slur -- the one from top line F up to C# and then down to C.Measure the Upper Joint (top/bottom) Bore & have clarinet in front of you or make note of the Upper Joint's alternate Bb (BIS) key as the Yamaha pro models have a different key design as opposed to Intermediate (Model 32, 34 & 52). Ask for Woodwind Support - they have 2 or 3 very knowledgable w/w techs.It probably *is* the clarinet, but not because it's an E11 or that "a lot of people have trouble with going over the register on this clarinet." You've probably either developed a new major leak from a pad in the lower section or had a lot of small leaks gradually get worse until the cumulative effect is the same as a big leak.Fobes' standard mouthpieces have been the San Francisco and more recently, the 10K--not the Cicero. Also, when buying any brand or model of mouthpiece in the UK beware of the notation "rebored for B&H large bore clarinet." Mouthpieces rebored in that way will not play in tune or otherwise match your French Boehm clarinet (Yamaha, Buffet, Selmer).For a bass clarinet, the $3000 or whatever that Tom's cost is very inexpensive. It is possible to try his clarinets in Europe, you just have to be willing to lose the shipping and/or tax for the trial. Of course, all of this depends on how serious you are about playing the instrument.Hence I see easy access, diagrammatic guides to clarinet nomenclature on the forum, as offering a great aid , both before posing a question and then in the matter of understanding the responses. To check the top pad (as a function of the bridge key), twist the bottom joint clockwise until the bridge keys do not meet and try those notes again. This would show if the bridge is keeping the top pad from coming down all the way.
